Biography
Dr. Cruz obtained his degree in medicine in 1974 and was awarded his PhD in Medicine and Surgery (?Cum Laude?) in 1978 from the University of Salamanca.Through his internship exam, he joined the Internal Medicine Unit at the Hospital Universitario in Salamanca. In 1980, he gained the position of Assistant Professor of Pathology and Clinical Medicine. Through a FISS fellowship from 1981 to 1982 he worked at the Tumour Institute in Milan at the Medical Oncology Unit under the supervision of Dr. Bonadonna.In 1982, he gained the position of Numerary Professor of Pathology and Clinical Medicine at the University of Salamanca and in 1984 was awarded the position of tenured professor in the same discipline. That same year, he was designated Head of the Internal Medicine Unit. In 1984, he obtained the position of Specialist in Medical Oncology and began to organise the Medical Oncology Unit at the Hospital Universitario in Salamanca. He was made Head of Section in 1986 and Head of the Unit in 1995. The Unit is a reference point in the Regional Community of Castille and Leon as from 1989 and has been recognised as an intern teaching centre since 1987. In 1997, Dr. Cruz became full professor of Medical Oncology at the University of Salamanca.
