About CIC:
The CIC is one of the leading research centers in Spain in terms of scientific output, carrying out innovative biomedical research related to cancer at the basic, translational, and clinical level (https://www.cicancer.org). It houses 21 research laboratories distributed in two Research Programs (Molecular Mechanisms of Cancer & Translational and Clinical Research in Cancer), ten technical units, and ≈350 research and administration staff. The personnel working at the CIC belong to the Spanish National Scientific Council (CSIC), the University of Salamanca or the Foundation for Cancer Research at the University of Salamanca (FICUS).
The CIC is located in a rather active biomedical campus that encompasses a University Hospital with an associated Health Research Institute, two additional University of Salamanca-ran Research Institutes (Neurosciences and Genomics), all the Biomedical schools (Medicine, Pharmacology, Biology, Biotechnology), and an adjacent Scientific/Industrial Campus where ten start-up companies have been established.
The CIC trains, in close association with the University of Salamanca, master students, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows. Given its close connection with patient-associated initiatives, the CIC has been recognized as a Health Centre by the Castilla-León Health System. With this accreditation, the CIC can carry out Hospital-like tasks (diagnostic, Hospital-associated clinical trials). Many of the CIC research groups have stable collaborations with biopharmaceutical companies and are responsible for a vast array of clinical trials. The CIC has also promoted the development of several start-up companies.
